Description
It is one of the oldest philharmonic orchestras in Greece, it was a pan-Hellenic nursery of musicians and chief musicians and continues to this day. It was founded in 1892 on the initiative of the then mayor of Aigio Spyros Panagiotopoulos, the brother of Panagos Panagiotopoulos and other philomusians of Aigio. Its first chief musician was the Italian Odesseo Mattiotsi. The first appearance of the Philharmonic took place in 1894 in Psila Alonia consisting of 40 children. Then for a while Ioannis Paridis was the chief musician, while in 1899 the Austrian Alberto Andlouvits took over the direction, during whose days the Philharmonic made significant progress.
