Phliarmonic Orchestra “Ioannis Kokonetsis”

The “IOANNIS KOKONETSIS” Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra is N.P.D.D. and is administratively under the Municipality of Aigialeia. It is worth noting that it is the only Municipal Philharmonic of Municipality (the Philharmonics of Akrata and Aigio are private institutions with autonomous boards of directors).

It was founded on December 1, 2004, after a split that occurred in the ranks of the Old Philharmonic Orchestra “O ARION” with a 25-year history.

The pioneers in the establishment of the New, Municipal Philharmonic Aigeira were the former Mayor of Aigeira, Mr. Dimitris Mylonas and his staff, especially with the President of the then Municipal Development Company “O AIGEIROS”, Mr. Angelos Kourtis!

Wanting to honor the more than 25-year contribution of the late Teacher and Conductor of the Old Philharmonic Orchestra “O ARION” Ioannis Kokonetsis, they gave his historic name to the Municipal Philharmonic!

The Municipal Philharmonic of Aigeira “Ioannis Kokonetsis” currently consists of 42 musicians and is considered the “jewel” of Eastern Aigeialia.

Its presence in cultural events has been intense since the first days of its establishment within, but also outside the boundaries of the former Municipality of Aigeira.

With appearances at various social events and giving concerts both within our Prefecture, such as in the former: Municipality of Akrata, Municipality of Diakopto, Municipality of Aigio, in the Municipality of Messolonghi and in the Prefecture of Corinthia, her future is set very positively!

The Municipal Philharmonic was led by Mr. Panagiotis Panagakos (who was a musician of the Old Aigeira Philharmonic from 1982 until November 2004 and its Chief Musician since 1996) from December 2004 until January 2017.

He remains her musician to this day. The new chief musician of the Philharmonic is today Mr. Dimitris Michalos.
