- Viewed - 21
Description
The morning is dedicated to the religious celebration in the rocky church by the altar of St Michael. During the afternoon, a small procession leaves the Cathedral and moves down through the streets of the district, which for the occasion is decorated with the typical “balloni”: these are blankets or bedspreads tied at the four corners to opposite balconies, thus creating a kind of canopy. The procession reaches the cave where many believers flock till late at night to honour the Saint.
Gravina celebrates its patron saint also on 29 September.
The celebrations take place in the ancient mediaeval district of Fondovico.
