Description

Grottaglie is known as the city of ceramics, ideal for a fabulous itinerary through the old town centre, starting at the Chiesa Matrice, continuing towards the Episcopio Castle with its square tower dating from the 14th century and ending at the ceramics district.

Along the route, depending on the time available and the choice of itinerary, you can visit the Church of San Francesco de Geronimo, Palazzo Pignatelli (exterior), the Church of the Carmine, which houses a rock crypt consecrated to the Madonna della Grotta and a convent, the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul and the picturesque alleyways of the old town with their distinctive balconies with typical “ceramic pumices”. The tour can end with a walk through the Gravina di San Giorgio, the district of the famous local ceramics, a flourishing production that is among the most important in Apulia together with Laterza and Cutrofiano.
